Cross My Heart Free Mobile Clinic is a start-up, nonprofit, design and development, mobile medical clinic project in South Carolina. Our team of licensed, building trades professionals and medical consultants, repurpose shipping containers and other commercial and passenger vehicles into customized, safe, top-of-the-line, self-contained mobile medical units. We partner with healthcare related organizations and wellness programs to help alleviate the high cost of healthcare and improve access to care for vulnerable populations and individuals with chronic diseases in remote rural and urban environments. Mobile clinics also provide an opportunity for medical students to broaden their educational experience and for some retired medical professionals with an active medical license to give back those in need and their profession by volunteering in a free clinic.
On average, mobile clinics save 65 quality-adjusted years of life during every year of operation. Each patient served saves an average of $1,600 in healthcare related costs due to health education and prevention. Currently, there are no National Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) that certify, nor is there a professional association that has written any standards for them. Thus, at present, the vendor of the unit is responsible for ensuring that it has been designed and constructed to the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) Guidelines for Design and Construction for Mobile Units: 2018 Edition of the FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Outpatient Facilities. Currently, the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners does not require permits or licensing for mobile clinics.
